Such a great post. I've been thinking about this lately. I really need to start going to church again. I haven't been in about a year. I think I let people use their "scripture stick" against me instead of focusing on God. I lost faith for bad reasons. Now it's time to get back to what I know and focus on my love for God :0)

I like what you said about still being joyful. We all make mistakes, but we repent, ask for forgiveness, learn from that and move on.

Considering my last post on forgiveness, I've been praying for opportunities to serve that person "secretly" and show Christlike-ness, as to not boast in public about what a good Christian I am!!

My husband keeps a plank in the closet near the platform at our church. He pulls it out frequently to remind us of the section of the Bible where it talks about removing the plank in our own eye before we can help our brother (or sister) remove the speck in theirs. The 2x4 serves as a visual reminder of how we beat people up with our own planks while we're so focused on the speck in someone else. This post reminded me of this.
As I've said recently, Scripture is a sword but we aren't meant to dice each other up with it. In our hands, the Sword battles the enemy- not each other. Only in God's hands does it pierce us in a way that transforms rather than destroys. Good reminder not to use God's words in a way He never intended. The Holy Spirit does not need any of us to run around thinking we know how to playact Him. He's just fine on His own, thank you very much. ;)

It is so hard for me to reconcile these things. It's especially weird when people I barely know chastise me with Scripture. That's something I would expect from a spiritual advisor, not a stranger.
